Channeling the utopian spirit of their namesake, Oneida spread sheets of unfettered noise, incongruous ivory tinkles, and a just-about-to-burst energy over choppy, skewed melodies. The band's decade-long pursuit of musical limits, coupled with its often mind-boggling digressions into free-jazz territory, forges an unconventional relationship between composition and performance, while reviving the guitar/organ/drums lineup (with a nod to Ray Manzarek). Still mighty, Oneida aren't an easy listen, but they're always worth it. Sub Pop's instrumental-drone kings Kinski open.
