Guitar virtuoso Stephane Wrembel learned to play from French Gypsies, but has cultivated his "gypsy jam" from a mélange of African, Cuban, and rock traditions. Though obviously influenced by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, the Brooklyn-based Wrembel incorporates disparate styles into his shredding, including ragtime and vaudeville — perfect for the funky Barbès ambience. Voice-and-bass duo Flutterbox play avant-pop that's avant enough for John Zorn's venue the Stone, but pop enough for kids (the band regularly plays children's concerts). Tonight, they open with violinist Charlie Burnham in tow.
