At some point in the '60s, organized social dances missed a step; ever since, they've been relegated to silver-haired couples on cruises and bat mitzvahs full of gangly teens, flailing in-sync. But back in the days of speakeasies and suffragettes, routines like the Lindy Hop and the Charleston went down as smooth as prohibited Canadian whiskey. That spirit lives on tonight at Monkey Town, as dance instructor and historian Chad Fasca screens clips from the Roaring Twenties right on up to the advent of rock 'n roll. Keep a close eye out for Grandma — she's in there somewhere, cutting a rug with the other flappers.
