Junot Díaz, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
Saturday Nov 1, 2008 (4pm)
Brooklyn Public Library

As part of the series Cosmopolis: Immigrant Writers in New York, WNYC's Leonard Lopate hosts a discussion with critically acclaimed author Junot Díaz at the Brooklyn Public Library. In his books and stories, Díaz sticks an array of cultural ingredients in a blender, and comes out with a whole much greater than the sum of its parts. His influences are all over the map: the Dune series, Julia Alvarez, the Fantastic Four, Dominican folklore, Oscar Wilde, and The Sound of Music. Fresh from a yearlong fellowship in Rome, Díaz, now an MIT professor, reads from his 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning debut novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.
