Band of Horses
Thursday Feb 14, 2008 (8pm)
Brooklyn Masonic Temple
317 Clermont Ave
$20
While Band of Horses bucked indie purists by lending tunes to Ford and Wal-Mart, they brought folks right back with Cease to Begin, a sophomore release that stands proudly by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy. Using a slate of bittersweet forms — from the hollowed and strung-out lullaby to the full-bodied Appalachian-rock anthem — they revel in the psych-tinged atmospheres of the Shins' early albums, while embracing the Americana allusions of Iron & Wine and My Morning Jacket. Playing the criminally under-used Brooklyn Masonic Temple tonight, Band of Horses are joined by Brooklyn's smartest shoegazers, Dirty on Purpose, in what might be the most indie V-Day date ever.
