Best known for his work alongside John Cale in La Monte Young's group the Theatre of Eternal Music, East Village institution and master violinist Tony Conrad is a friend of many forms. While he's done his time with neo-classical skronkers like John Zorn, his Tzadik-style dissonance often gives way to long, warm trances, as Conrad's minimalist upbringing overtakes his East Village edge. There's a dreamlike quality to his works: the listener often feels submerged, completely surrounded by sound. It's on this note — both literal and figurative — that his live, improv-based, compositions can warmly lull an evening away, cycling on and on into eternity.
