Gui Boratto's Chromophobia was easily one of the best releases of 2007, a hyper-lush batch of blissed-out techno. The blogging community first creamed over the hooky, cascading single "Beautiful Life," but something about Boratto's kinder, gentler brand of techno struck a crossover chord, and wider accolades have been coming ever since. Maybe it's something to do with his being a late bloomer — Boratto only started making music in his 30s — but despite his tracks' dark titles ("Mr. Decay," "Mala Strana," "The Verdict"), they possess an alluring warmth and a São Paulo-style schaffel, making them equally appealing to techno purists and noncommittal dance-music dorks.
