At times it seems that Southern hip-hop owns the crunk movement, but tonight's event is a reminder that crunk belongs to anyone who's down for a raucously good time. New Orleans/Brooklyn-based group the Pimps of Joytime play dirty Cajun soul full of muddy blues riffs, call-and-response vocals, and Afro-Latin rhythms. LA funk-loving rockers Stex Jebba provide Anthony Kiedis-esque vocals and hard-hitting bass lines, while local DJ Phil Anthony digs through his crates for a few dance joints, maybe even spinning a few Lil Jon classics.
