Bands with "big sounds" often aim for stadium-sized glory or brain-busting depth, but Gang Gang Dance are huge in a manner all their own. The Brooklyn odd squad cuts across stylistic borders like journeymen in a Jules Verne novel (or something), mapping new terrain from old and stirring up a gargantuan rumble in the process. Disorienting as it might be, Lizzie Bougatsos' spaced-out yelp, buried in a mix of polyrhythmic racket, focuses the band's Casiotone hallucinations. And if that's not convincing enough, the good people at the Whitney might have something to say about it.
