New York's indie hip-hop fans can rejoice tonight, as Midwest duo Eyedea and Abilities kick off the "Appetite for Distraction" tour with their first live show in the city since 2004. Eyedea is as elegant a lyricist as ever, smoothly weaving political commentary into his complex storylines, while turntablist Abilities' jazzy mixes offer beat therapy for the pop-exhausted soul. Fellow angst-rap outfit Educated Consumers join the progressive party, with MC SeezMics bringing back the '90s boom-rap style and waxing poetic about the effects of technology on society. All this may sound very serious, but you'll still be laughing over the freestyle battle antics, and mashin' for each and every wild cut.
