Before hitting rooftop barbeques and sunning in city parks, New Yorkers celebrate the arrival of warm weather with the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens' Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. This year's two-day fête features a meet-and-greet with Manga for Dummies author Kensuke Okabayashi, sushi-pillow photo ops, and a new J-Lounge with DJs spinning anime-themed tunes and '70s and '80s J-pop. Between leisurely strolls through acres of flowering cherry trees, visitors can also screen Miyuki Sohara's documentary Hannari: Geisha Modern, take in traditional nihon and ryukyu buyo dancers, ikebana flower-arranging demonstrations, or try their hand at taiko drumming and origami workshops before munching treats on the Cherry Esplanade.
