Despite the global food crisis, a worldwide movement has emerged in recent years, encouraging consumers to regard food not merely as nutrients and calories, but as a fundamental (and yes, pleasurable) part of who we are. Tracking this phenomenon is a glut of food blogs and publications. Spooning is the latest online mag devoted to grub, featuring articles about sustainable farming and foraging for California chanterelles, as well as titillating photo spreads of desserts and loads of recipes for an array of palates. Celebrate the magazine's launch with a screening of Juzo Itami's classic film, Tampopo, a hilarious, raunchy ode to victuals.
