Mannequin Men's swaggering stomp-alongs bring to mind midwestern brethren like Naked Raygun and MC5. The Chicago quartet's sophomore album, Fresh Rot, expands from the simplistic garage rock of their early releases, including shimmering '60s psychedelia and uncomfortable post-punk dissonance, along with some moments of real pathos. Whether snottily preening or unleashing hooky riffs, frontman Kevin Richard sounds simultaneously hungry and battle-weary, as his band backs him up with an equally eager racket. Local upstarts the Octagon open the show with a set of throaty road-trip rockers.
