For one special day each summer, the Village Voice cordially transforms the bizarro-Poseidean freak show that is Coney Island into something just as strange, but with far more blog cred. Yes, Siren Fest is a sight to behold, jangle pop, shoot-the-freak, fried clams, and all. This year's lineup offers an excellent cross-section of contemporary rockers, including ex-Pavement project Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Montreal ensemble Islands, up-and-coming indie-folkies the Dodos, and more than a few others. Large crowds are the norm, but fear not: the beach is but a few steps away, and indie fans can always use some sun.
