Equally steeped in irony and emotion, rising Wham City adoptees Future Islands toe the line between buoyant Dan Deacon-style blips and lounging indie-rock anthemry. Live, tunes like "Old Friend," "Little Dreamer," "Beach Foam," and "Heart Grows Old" take epic turns as singer Sam Herring stuns with (intentionally?) dead-on imitations of Jack Black's more eccentric antics, emoting to high heaven as his facial expressions shift violently between rapturous joy and all-out despair. The band plays tonight with Brooklyn-bred electro-rock oddities Fiasco.
