Bad guys beware: Japan's Peelander-Z really do have superhuman strength. The last time the manga-themed punk-rock circus took on NYC, Peelander's drummer scurried up a chain-link fence, dived into a tree, and scuttled down backwards — all in the course of a 30-second guitar solo. Decked in neon unitards, the rest of the cartoonish crew members hold their own with giant dragon wings, bizarre, single-syllable yowls, and even a bit of human bowling. The lyrical simplicity of nonsense songs like "Super Health" and "Happpee Pee" makes sing-alongs a given, and the band's aptitude for earnest pop-punk riffage makes its absurd antics all the more incredible.
