Emma Rice's inventive adaptation of Noel Coward's Still Life and its 1945 David Lean film charms before the curtain even rises: a small jazz band outfitted in period attire serenades the audience with old jazz songs, setting the scene for Laura (Hannah Yelland) and Alec (Tristan Sturrock) to meet. Yelland and Sturrock are an electrifying couple both on stage and on screen (live video is interspersed throughout the show), making it easy to see why they would risk everything to be together.
