Snow White is the last and tastiest slice of Company XIV's Apple Trilogy (Le Serpent Rouge and The Judgment of Paris are also being performed). Director/choreographer Austin McCormick magically reinvents a classic made famous by the Brothers Grimm and Disney. His mix of music and dance styles meets the staging challenges of a talking mirror (here the opera trio Charities) and seven dwarfs (shadow puppets). Snow White's abandonment in the forest also becomes a beautiful, modern dance tribute to her name, set to Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Snowflakes. McCormick's other touches include a tongue-in-check narrator, a wild Russian character dance, and a giddy baroque number with a singing wig.
