The Byzantine details of Ward Shelley's "timeline drawing" mind-maps bear a fuzzy likeness to American Splendor. Applying ultimate to-do list techniques (highlighting texts, varying font size and color for emphasis, use of arrows and bubbles) and channeling anatomically similiar maps, Shelley categorizes and depicts a variety of subjects, from artistic genres to media role models. Who Invented the Avant Garde also features Shelley himself in a studio live-in — reminiscent of his Flatland days — from April 16-30, allowing visitors to assist in programming the artist's brain for future creative endeavors.
