“Foodies, rejoice! The dozen-plus vendors lining the Red Hook soccer fields are open for business! They're selling all manner of authentic Latin American delights, from pupusas to ceviche, huaraches, and horchata. Another perk? You can score a free ride from Manhattan to Red Hook, courtesy of the Ikea ferry (and gracias, Serious Eats, for the Ikea ferry hack).”
RHBFV says:
Local New Yorkers have come and enjoyed what many consider to be one of the best experiences in ethnic Latin cuisine. Traditional foods and recipes that are not found in restaurants, but passed down -through generations- to every artisan cook. Colorful vending trucks and an open air natural environment surrounded by parkland gives this setting an original & authentic flair. Difficult accessibility to the park via public transportation and its remote & isolated location in one of New York city’s oldest neighborhoods –Red Hook- kept the food vendors of Red Hook park a well-kept secret among those food connoisseurs lucky enough to know about it, and for those who knew how to get there! Here, in Brooklyn’s backyard we find an activity considered one of the city’s best hidden culinary treasures. The home of the ‘soccer taco’ (as the New York Post named it) where the Salvadoran pupusa and the Mexican Huarache reign supreme amongst regulars. Where the distinctive taste of ceviche brings the South American coast ever closer to the Brooklyn waterfront, where the air filled with sea breeze aroma gives it even more intense tropical taste.
