“Second to putting out a phenomenal literary journal, Canteen Magazine throws a good party. The last event we attended at the home of Brooklyn Museum Director Arnold Lehman—an apt. that rivals any Chelsea gallery for its artwork—had surprise appearances by Björk and Matthew Barney. We don't know how they swing it, but maybe their good samaritan vibe has something to do with it. Canteen runs a tutoring program in Harlem, bringing in authors like Porochista Khakpour to teach workshops. Come to support Canteen, to pick up a copy of its latest issue—#6, to peruse the exhibit of winning photos, to swill complementary cocktails by Bulldog Gin, to listen to Hank & Cupcakes and to purchase photographic prints. If you're a photographer who can take the criticism, bring your portfolio. Arthur Ou is on hand to mete out his critical acumen!”
