Rooftop Films, now in its 14th year, kicks off this year's Solar-Powered Film Series with a screening of Gasland. This special series is presented in different cities in New York and Pennsylvania, bringing unique and not-incredibly-accessible films to interesting venues and providing live music before all screenings. The 2010 Summer Series included the Spike Jonze robot short "I'm Here," the Academy Award-winning short "Logorama," and Floodtide, a documentary about the artist Swoon. Do you know what "fracking" is? Yeah, neither did we. Check out Gasland and find out.

Note:

Live music starts at 6:30pm, film at 7:30pm; Q&A with Director Josh Fox at 9:30pm and afterparty at 10pm. In the event of rain, this event will be held on Sunday, September 12.

Solar One says…

Gasland is the story of what happened when a natural gas mining company offered Josh Fox and his upstate New York neighbors $100,000 each for the right to drill for gas on their land, and Fox thought he’d better examine what was going on before he signed away his property. This led him on a cross-country odyssey that uncovered a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. The result is an eye-opening documentary that is part vérité travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, and part showdown.
