“Cinema 16 is back with a crazy good first fall lineup featuring a set of experimental short films by legendary filmmakers, with live scoring by Ablehearts. Cinema 16 is part of a rising culture of young avant-garde film enthusiasts who are giving old traditions a thoroughly modern twist — a culture which also includes Brooklyn-based Light Industry. In the past, Cinema 16 has paired its avant-garde film finds with the music of Lemonade, Julianna Barwick and Sarah Lipstate (aka Noveller), and Bone Conductors. This set includes the films Witch's Cradle by visionary of experimental filmmaker Maya Deren; Wallace Berman's Aleph — an eight-minute meditation on death, mysticism, politics, and pop culture; and Kihachiro Kawamoto's stop-motion animated film Dojoji Temple, which features a monk, his acolyte, pilgrims, and a widow who turns into a giant serpent. Come hungry, as there's catered food for sale on premises.”
On September 2nd 2010 Cinema 16 performs its 1st Fall Program in New York. For one night 3 short experimental films will be transformed by Ablehearts at Smack Mellon, DUMBO.
