“After reading Josh Farrar's Rules To Rock By, we're of the mind that all bildungsroman novels ought to come with a soundtrack. The book is "an indie-rock coming of age story," following a girl and her band (the Bungles), and of course the author came up with actual songs for this fictional group. Tonight's reading also features live performances of Bungles tunes from local BK teen musicians and Guided by Voices' Kevin March, plus a Rock Band jam sesh of the Bungles' "hit tune," "Hey Satomi." We're pretty sure kids would be way more into reading if they could play Rock Band with it.”

New York author Josh Farrar’s young adult novel Rules To Rock By is an indie-rock coming of age story, with an accompanying soundtrack of music by the heroine’s fictional band, The Bungles – played by real Brooklyn teen musicians. Tonight’s reading will be accompanied by live music from these talented rockers, includin...g Fort Greene local Justine Skyers (singer), Sofie Kapur (singer) and Hunter Lombard (guitarist), with special guests including Kevin March (Guided by Voices/Shudder to Think), and others TBA. The evening will conclude with a Rock Band interactive version of the band’s track “Hey Satomi” – join us to rock out with Brooklyn’s literary and musical talent!
