Bushwick seems to have become the de facto land of DIY, fostering experimentalists in science and food, music, and film. These last two mediums are of particular interest to the organizers of the Bushwick Film Festival, who present both this weekend for the fourth year in a row. The BFF screens five feature-length films and dozens of shorts; the roster is bolstered by performances from a handful of bands and DJs (including Chappo, Acrylics, and Fancy Colors), as well as on-site art. Starting Friday, if you're looking for the next big creative thing, you'll do best to go East, young man.

Brooklyn Fireproof says…

Years after the Bushwick Breweries and the speakeasies were shut down and right around the time the gangs of Bushwick were roaming the streets in Morgan town, the Bushwick Film Festival came to be. The Festival Team has been around the block making noise, and projecting ideas for quite some time. Over the course of 4 years, the festival has screened works by 64 filmmakers and have acquired 15 proud sponsors. The Festival also collaborates with local venues and creative collectives to put on annual music shows and art openings. Finally, over 1000 tickets have been sold from screenings and events during the festival weekends.
