Artists open their studios this weekend at the DUMBO Arts Festival (DAF) to remind us that art is alive and well here. In addition to indoor and outdoor exhibitions and art installations, there's a circus arts troupe, Czech marionette theatre, drum circles, and the first-ever Digital Summit kicking the whole thing off. Some things we're keeping an eye out for are video_dumbo, which premieres Pavel Medvedev's Ascension, a gorgeous film composed of previously unseen footage from the Soviet space program; the paperback launch party for Jonathan Lethem's Chronic City; and the bug tasting with Brooklyn's "Bug Chef and Artist" Marc Dennis. Check out the festival map or surprise yourself and stumble onto artful happenings helter-skelter. Either way, we hope to see you while picking up our Chocolate Chirp Cookies.

Various DUMBO locations says…

The DUMBO Arts Festival—a three-day arts extravaganza—will offer music and arts-lovers jubilant musical performances, concerts, street musicians, marching bands, instrument workshops, drum circles, as well as world-class visual art, monumental art installations, performance art, open studios and galleries, dance, walking tours, readings by famed authors and unique family programming. The Festival will take over the entire DUMBO waterfront community—its street corners, parks, bridges, galleries, storefronts, performance venues, and studios. Best vantage point is at 45 Main St. between Water St. and Front St. in Brooklyn.
