We can't help but be intrigued by this film, in which Polanski as a vampire killer becomes enamored with the character played by future wife Sharon Tate. Their romance apparently started on the set of the film. While the film flopped at the box office, the gothic fairy tale became somewhat of a sleeper hit. And though upon its US release MGM wanted to call the film The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck, Polanski would have none of that. You shouldn't miss this on the big screen. As Polanski was accustomed to working on shoe-string budgets, he used this opportunity to employ some of the best English cinema craft artists such as cameraman Douglas Slocombe. What better way to kick off a lavish Labor Day weekend?

BAM Rose Cinemas says…

Polanski’s Baroque horror-comedy—an affectionate tribute to the 1960s and 70s Hammer Studios output—is among the director's finest and most personal works. Two hapless vampire hunters (including the director himself in the bumbling assistant role) endeavor to destroy a bloodsucking count and his daughter (a ravishing Sharon Tate). Lavishly costumed, designed, and photographed, The Fearless Vampire Killers teems with Polanski's eccentric touches—wintry, storybook landscapes, Central European mythology, Gothic atmosphere, and offbeat, black humor—while masterfully slipping between genres.
