You'd be forgiven for thinking English quartet Metronomy was a new act — after all, their song-of-the-summer, "The Look," had all the hallmarks of a breakout band making its debut. The unbelievably catchy chorus; the perfectly polished appearance; the breezy effortlessness that marks an act at the height of its creative peak. However, their latest album, The English Riviera, is actually their third. (If you've only recently gotten on board, we highly recommend giving 2008's Nights Out a spin or three.) Metronomy did originally start out as more of a solo project for frontman Joseph Mount, though, so in a sense, maybe the current incarnation actually is a "new" band. Combining the best aspects of electronic dance music with those of modern pop, the group also knows how to put on a hell of a live event, often including matching outfits and light shows — which incorporate the outfits themselves.

Music Hall of Williamsburg says…

The metronome is not a device known for its deviation. It strikes a predictable, functional pattern. Each time Metronomy release an album, on the other hand, there is a scorched-earth change of pace and tone. Yet the pulse never disappears; it just reanimates for a brand new dance floor.
