“ABRACADABRA has become synonymous with the not-to-be-missed high art party for music aficionados. This event is no exception. For a night, much praised DFA recording artist Gavin Russom's musical outfit the Crystal Ark and multimedia artist Viva Ruiz transform a Bed-Stuy disco into a unique musical showcase. The Crystal Ark, including DFA label-mates Tyler Pope and Matt Thornley, performs live, and GHE20 GOTHIK DJs and Saheer Umar complete the musical offerings. As it did with the Salem show at Ramiken Crucible, ABRACADABRA furnishes a transcendant atmosphere with custom lights and visual effects by artists Bec Stupac (Deitch Projects, Whitney Biennial) and Johnny Woods of Honeygun Labs, as well as custom sound by Jim Toth (MoMA's sound designer). If that's still not enough, come for the "choreographed dances" and "improvisational interludes." As with all great happenings, there's room for interpretation.”
