This month-long exhibition and screening series, We Are Cinema, celebrates the "oldest and largest artist-run cooperative in the world," the Filmmakers' Co-op. Begun in 1962 by Jonas Mekas and a group of fellow avant-garde filmmakers, the organization aimed to keep the means of exhibition and distribution in the hands of the artists. To this day, it's still adheres to those principles set up decades ago and continues to open its doors to anyone with film or video work. This show opens with a special screening of the rare short films of Jack Smith and picks up later in the month with screenings by Ken Jacobs, Jonas Mekas, and a group show.
