3rd Ward says…

PHP is a powerful, free, open-source server-side scripting language that can be used to build dynamic websites and custom web applications. This course will explain where PHP fits in to the equation of browser/server requests, how to setup a local testing server, basic terminal commands, and the fundamentals and syntax of PHP.

We will go through exercises that will reveal practical uses for PHP such as: combining sections of pages to improve workflow, interacting with a MySQL database to store information, dynamically populating pages by retrieving from a database, password protecting areas of a site, form processing and validation, user device detection, and browser language detection. Although this course is not fully exhaustive in terms of learning everything about PHP, in five weeks you will be familiar with the scope and potential of PHP, and be able to plan and write out your own scripts.

Students should already know HTML and CSS prior to starting this course. A knowledge of Javascript is also useful but not required. Students must be comfortable working on Mac computers in the lab. You may want to bring an external hard drive or flash drive to store your working files on.

This course runs for five sessions.
