English Kills has long been (in Bushwick years, that is) one of the pre-eminent galleries in the Bushwick arts scene. Founded in 2007 by a former one-time employee of Chelsea's Mary Boone Gallery, Chris Harding, it is run out of a large space — one of the largest in the area until Luhring Augustine moved in — and represents artists in the traditional sense. Yet true to Bushwick spirit, it still maintains a freedom from commercial and curatorial pressures that distinguishes it from its Chelsea counterparts. Presenting the second installment in a series entitled the English Kills Permanent Collection, of paintings, sculpture, and drawings donated by artists, this show is a good reason to visit the gallery whether you're an old-timer to the scene or a novice. Come out and see what some of Brooklyn's most exciting artists have been up to and get a taste of the Bushwick scene before the blue chip galleries move in and price them out.
