“Fred Armisen reminds us of that crazy gopher from Caddyshack. The clever little guy keeps popping up in new places, doing unexpected things. But perhaps Armisen's latest act isn't so unexpected, it's just been laying dorment for a while. Before his life in comedy, the Portlandia co-creator was seriously known for his drumming. He played with Chicago post-hardcore band Trenchmouth and also did a stint with the Blue Man Group. Now, with Playlist Live!, a performance he first unveiled at Other Music in December, he's back behind a kit, as well as a ragtag assortment of other instruments, recreating songs that have impacted his life — from bands such as Devo, the Clash, Kraftwerk, and the Stranglers. It's a little like a Jon Brion show, but more punk rock. Audience participation is encouraged and special guests are expected for this lively musical residency.”
