On a freezing day, nothing beats a hearty bowl of warm soup. It's comforting. It's heathful. It's delicious. The culinary staff at 3rd Ward breaks down some pro tips for creating your own winter soups at home, starting with seasonal ingredients and basic knife skills. Learn how to recreate a Moroccan lentil soup, a hearty kale soup with a kick (thanks to lime and jalapeño), and a Guinness beef stew.

3rd Ward says…

There are endless varieties of soup. Most of them start with a few basic principles, an outline per se, and from there the possibilities become as endless as the imagination. In this class we will discuss these fundamentals, flavor patterns and a variety of soup-making techniques.

Using good knife skills, seasonal wintry ingredients and a few useful kitchen tips we will execute a cross section of tasty soups, stews and garnishes including a fragrant and healthful Moroccan Spiced Lentil Soup, a quick-cooking Kale Soup with Lime and Jalapeno, and a classic Guinness Beef Stew with Buttery Potatoes, each a meal in itself.

These hearty, warming recipes demonstrate varying degrees of intricacy and will provide the home cook with the know-how to recreate them all winter long as well as the confidence to experiment with their own combinations.

This is a single-session class.
