Kacy Maddux's curiously symmetric, Rorschach-like creations are the end product of an intensely freeform technique. Utilizing a vocabulary of iconic, organic, and geometric imagery — including disembodied hands, hair, branches, and stairs — Maddux envisions her drawings as "symbolic constellations" that reveal the ephemeral aspects of life. The most striking feature of Maddux's work is her confident, inimitable style — deceptively simple and tender, with sweeping, elegant lines that recall the Art Nouveau-inspired work of the late-'60s psychedelic era.
