Gallery director Britton Bertran based Guns & Ammo on Newton's third law of motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Some works depict weaponry, like silkscreen-on-MDF pistol images by Ryan Humphrey that evoke the ubiquity of guns, or Rich Mansfield's sculptures of land mines formed from melted crayons. Others have more subtle, and occasionally sinister, implications, such as Mike Andrews' chunky sculptural collage that pulls from an arsenal of historically charged materials, or Jo Hormuth's elephant-hide baseballs. The exhibition is bolstered by Bertran's engrossing blog, filled with delightfully weird found images cleverly sorted into "guns" or "ammo" categories.
