Showing work from three series — Rendered in Black, Events Are, and Reading — New York-based artist Adam Pendleton displays an array of aesthetically tight work. Black dominates the spacious gallery, as a variety of screenprinted and sculptural works give the show a museum-like quality. The highlight is Rendered in Black, made up of ceramic cubes that litter the gallery like an oversized game of Tetris. Maybe the cool minimalism is meant to soothe the mind before it encounters intense textual pieces like Last Night (reading Malcolm X in no particular order). This is Pendleton's second solo show at Rhona Hoffman Gallery.
