Waitress is the final film by director/actress Adrienne Shelley, who was tragically murdered just as the Sundance Film Festival accepted this bittersweet ode to the restorative power of pastry. Keri Russell plays Jenna, stuck in an abusive marriage and scraping by on the meager salary provided by a small-town diner. To get away from her husband Earl (played with typical unhinged creepiness by Six Feet Under's Jeremy Sisto), Jenna begins baking pies and naming them according to her mood. When she finds herself unhappily pregnant, she bakes herself an "I don't want to have Earl's baby" pie, thereby embarking on a journey of self-discovery — and quiche.
