MacArthur fellow Peter Cole is world-renowned for his translations of medieval Hebrew poets, particularly the work of Shmuel HaNagid — a writer previously considered "untranslatable." Tonight, Cole brings his unique perspective to a discussion of the Middle East, offering a wide-angle view of current hostilities between Israel and the Arab world. Cole's talk promises a refreshing respite from the daily back-and-forth coverage of the Middle East on cable news and the Internet, exploring the ways in which recent historical developments have fostered hatred and mistrust on both sides.
