Is there anything more tiresome than punk-rock nostalgia? Of course! There’s a reason you still hear Naked Raygun blasting nightly at local rock ‘n’ roll bars. Fist-pumping choruses and rousing whoa-oh’s have a tendency to age pretty well. Chicago’s beloved pop-punks headline the first night of Riot Fest 2007. Tomorrow, hardcore trailblazers Bad Brains close things out with their legendary live prowess. And considering their solid Adam Yauch-produced record from earlier this year (not to mention a long and varied bill of younger bands including Nekromantix, the Queers, and Dillinger Four), it seems unfair to lump Riot Fest in with the usual punk-rock oldies revue. You are keeping a Positive Mental Attitude, right?
