Director Noah Baumbach's breakthrough film, The Squid and the Whale, featured Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels as a squabbling Brooklyn couple whose dissolving marriage was tangled up in issues of creative achievement, creative frustration, and financial disappointment. It was autobiographical, even down to the fact that, during filming, Daniels wore clothes originally belonging to Baumbach's father. Working in a similar style, Baumbach's Margot at the Wedding stars Nicole Kidman (as Margot) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (as Pauline). The two play estranged sisters brought together by Pauline's wedding to an unemployed artist named Malcolm (Jack Black). John Turturro rounds out the stunning ensemble.
