With many soldiers forced to serve multiple combat tours and army desertion rates at a two-decade high, most people agree that the war in Iraq has stretched our all-volunteer military to its breaking point. While creative recruitment tactics and incentive bonuses have helped staunch the shortage of manpower, some are urging the United States to re-establish the national military draft, abolished by Richard Nixon in 1973.
