The Empty Bottle says…

Sunset Rubdown was once just a home for good songs that couldn't join the Wolf Parade, dressed like orphans in oddball hand-me-downs and mismatched sounds. The same inventiveness and ragged charm emerges from their Random Spirit Lover, except now with a center of gravity and clear sense of purpose. Frontman Spencer Krug at his best can work kitchen-sink alchemy à la Neutral Milk Hotel, but he's still young, building galleons without first making sure there's enough water to float them. He's a compelling stage presence as well, hunched over the keys with a baby face full of feelings and ambition.
