Lovable power-pop combo Frisbie is similar to Wham-O, manufacturer of a similarly named toy — in that spinning their discs makes people happy. Their songs are built around the catchy melodies and gorgeous harmonies of Steve Frisbie and Liam Davis, laureates of the Difford/Tilbrook and Lennon/McCartney schools. Frisbie's critically adored debut album, The Subversive Sounds of Love (2000), landed them opening gigs for simpatico spirits like Big Star, Matthew Sweet, Cheap Trick, and Wilco. The future seemed bright until a medical crisis derailed their progress, but after a long layoff, Frisbie are back with the appropriately named New Debut. They're the November artists in residence at Schubas' Monday night "Performance Space" series; opening acts vary.
