The Note says…

In the Red Records has put out some of the finest garage-rock albums of the last few years. Bands like the Ponys and the Black Lips have shown that it's possible to retain classicist conventions while still getting the hell out of the predictable retro ghetto. But few have done it with as much unaffected, seemingly limitless passion as the label's King Khan & BBQ Show. BBQ handles most of the vocal duties while simultaneously playing rhythm guitar and kicking a bass drum. Khan, meanwhile, plays lead guitar. The duo's simple-yet-complex setup might sound like a novelty act (the goofy name doesn't help), but they're serious rockers — as you might guess, BBQ's stomping makes Meg White sound like Keith Moon. The melodies are instant, and the players careen off one another with virtuosity while managing to sound dazzlingly primitive.
