Shirley Mordine says she's "throwing down the glove" with this new festival, a collection of lucid, socially relevant work nestled deep in the heart of the holiday season. LiveWire Chicago Theatre looks at the methodologies of army recruitment, Breakbone Dance Co. explores destructive concepts of beauty, and 3 card molly filters the waiting-for-biopsy-results film Cleo from 5 to 7 through a feminist performance-art aesthetic. Minneapolis powerhouse duo HIJACK performs Guerilla Gay Bar, while Mordine's own dance company performs Rupture. Finally, Cristal Sabbagh pulls no punches, considering the topic of Hurricane Katrina through minstrelsy.
