After doing time at a major label — where the corporate bottom line trumped all else — talent scout and music buff Bettina Richards launched Thrill Jockey Records in 1992. Richards modeled her business after other ethically minded labels like Touch & Go and Dischord; the label's wildly diverse roster and egalitarian artist relationships (musicians enjoy a 50/50 profit split and handshake contracts) have made Thrill Jockey one of the country's most respected indies. Tonight, Richards invites 16 of TJ's finest — including Eleventh Dream Day, Pit Er Pat, and the Sea & Cake — to celebrate their label's 15th birthday with a two-night blowout, complete with special guests, unique collaborations, and a free, limited-edition mix CD for two-day pass purchasers.
