Twenty-five years of hindsight, miraculously complete extra footage, and a serious need for closure all conspired to make Warner Brothers trot this dystopian neo-noir out for its third theatrical release. "Director's Cut" having been already used (inaccurately) in 1992, tagging Ridley Scott's recent rebuild the "Final Cut" is the clearest way to put it — this is the film he wanted all along, and it's easy to see why. No longer edited by committee, the story unwinds toward a conclusion that finally feels honest, and the meticulous, seminal cinematography is restored to a hypnotic degree of clarity.
