Alex Chilton's rough-pop smarts make him the perfect candidate for a tribute night. Not only is he an artist's artist who's already inspired a fine tribute album, but his mercurial nature guarantees a wealth of disparate, yet equally well-crafted styles. There's his lithe, gritty R&B singing for the Box Tops, his unimpeachable power-pop with Big Star, and his more unhinged, punk-inspired solo work. Larry O. Dean of the Injured Parties hosts, with some of Chicago's finest indie-poppers (Kasper Hauser, Aviette) interpreting the Memphis master.
