Before moving on to bigger, though not-necessarily better, work with Team America (2004) and Elf (2003), the Chiodo Brothers debuted with their rather self-explanatory cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988). The klowns are more than a little creepy, but everything else — the big-top spaceship, the cotton-candy cocoons — is tongue-in-cheek hilarity. There's one especially memorable scene in which a klown leaps from a toilet, trying to nab another in a long line of unsuspecting townsfolk; right before a nifty Hitchcock homage, with the toilet taking the place of Psycho's shower drain, you can plainly see a puppeteer's arm inside the bowl. That gaffe perfectly captures what makes Killer Klowns so fun: filmmaking smarts and low-budget charm.
